Buck sat in the firetruck, the sound of the sirens fading into the background as his mind wandered. It had been a particularly challenging call, one that triggered memories he had fought so hard to bury. He couldn’t shake off the images that flooded his mind—the sounds of screams, the smell of smoke, the intense heat that engulfed him. It was as if he was transported back to the day that changed everything.

As the truck returned to the station, Buck’s heart felt heavy, burdened by the weight of his past. He parked the vehicle and took a deep breath, trying to compose himself before facing you. But the fear and pain that resurfaced during the call had left their mark, and he couldn’t shake off the lingering unease.

Walking into the firehouse, Buck caught glimpses of his colleagues sharing lighthearted banter, but their laughter seemed distant, almost foreign. He glanced at their smiling faces and realized that he couldn’t muster the same carefree demeanor anymore. The trauma had shifted something within him, casting a shadow on his once vibrant spirit.

His footsteps felt heavy as he made his way to his locker, his eyes downcast. He knew you would be waiting for him outside, eagerly anticipating his return. But the thought of facing you, of seeing the love and concern reflected in your eyes, filled him with a sense of dread.

And then, there you were, waiting patiently with a smile that used to light up his world. But now, that smile felt like a burden—a constant reminder of the happiness he could no longer fully embrace. He watched as you approached him, your eyes filled with love and worry. But as you reached out to touch his arm, he flinched, a reflexive reaction to the turmoil brewing inside him.

You noticed the change in his demeanor—the way his eyes no longer met yours with the same warmth, the way he averted his gaze. It pained you to see the distance growing between you, but you couldn’t understand what had triggered this sudden shift. Every attempt to draw him closer was met with resistance, as though he was trying to protect you from something he couldn’t fully articulate.

“What’s the matter with him?” you asked, eyes met with Eddie’s.

“I don’t know.” he sighed.

Inside, Buck was grappling with conflicting emotions. He loved you deeply, and your presence had brought light into his life. But the trauma, unleashed by that call, had shattered the emotional stability he had built with you. He couldn’t bear the thought of burdening you with his pain, of tainting the love you shared with the darkness that haunted him.

The mere thought of losing you intensified his inner turmoil. He wanted to protect you, to shield you from the cracks that were forming within him. Buck knew he was pushing you away, but he convinced himself it was for your own good, believing that distancing himself was the only way to ensure your happiness and safety.

Every time he pushed you away, his heart fractured a little more. He yearned to be the man you deserved, but the trauma gnawed at his soul, urging him to retreat into the solitude he had grown accustomed to. It was a constant battle—between the fear of losing you and the fear of dragging you down into the depths of his darkness.

In his quiet moments, he would gaze at you from a distance, his heart aching with the love he couldn’t fully express. He saw your pain, your confusion, and it tore at him. He wished he could let you in, to confide in you and find solace in your embrace. But the fear of vulnerability, the fear of exposing his brokenness, kept him locked behind the walls he had meticulously built.

“What’s going on man?” Eddie asked Buck, stopping him halfway. “Something happened between you and Y/n?”

“No, no!” he waved his hand, measuring his words. “That’s the thing, nothing happened. Everything is perfect, Y/n is perfect. And because of my job, everything could fall apart with just a blink and I don’t want that.” Buck sighed as Eddie patted his shoulder.

“This is the life we chose, man. We save people, we lose people. But the more we try to save the people we care about, the more we hurt them.” Eddie shook his head at Buck, his eyes sending him comforting looks. “Listen, Y/n can take care of herself. You can’t prevent every bad thing that might happen. The more you do that, the more you push her away. The more you hurt her. She loves you, buddy. Just go talk to her. I know for sure she loves you just the way you are, with your job and everything. She doesn’t want it any other way.” Buck nodded at his best friend’s words.

As each day passed, Buck’s struggle grew more agonizing. The love he had for you clashed with the trauma that threatened to consume him. He would watch you go about your day, trying to be strong and supportive, but his heart sank as he saw the worry etched on your face. Every time you reached out to him, he felt the urge to surrender, to let you in and share his pain. But the memories of that call, the intensity of the emotions it stirred, held him captive in a state of emotional paralysis.

Late at night, when darkness cloaked his thoughts and silence filled the room, Buck would sit alone, wrestling with his demons. He would question if he was strong enough to protect you, to shield you from the aftermath of his past. The thought of causing you pain, of burdening you with the weight of his trauma, tore at him. He cherished you, but he believed he didn’t deserve your unwavering love and support.

Yet, despite his best efforts to push you away, you remained steadfast. Your presence never wavered, your determination to stand by him unwavering. You would reach out to him, time and time again, refusing to let his silence and distance define your connection. You saw past his emotional walls, recognizing the wounded soul within, and you were determined to reach him.

In moments of vulnerability, when the weight of his past became unbearable, Buck would catch himself stealing glances at you. The love and care in your eyes, the gentleness of your touch—it stirred something deep within him, igniting a flicker of hope. But the fear of exposing his shattered self, the fear of disappointing you, held him back.

“I don’t know what to do anymore. He won’t talk to me, he won’t even look at me, for God’s sake!” you told Hen, absently stirring the coffee in your mug. “I-uh, I think he wants to end things between us.”

Hen hugged you, when she saw the tears forming in your eyes, desperation written all over your face. You couldn’t put a finger on what might’ve happened to Buck. Maybe you’re not what he wants anymore. Maybe he found someone better to understand him, someone that loves him better. Or maybe he realised that you’re not what he wants. Hen looked up in Buck’s direction, knowing he overheard everything, a hurt expression painted on his face as he watched you sobbing on Hen’s shoulder. Hen shake her head at Buck when their eyes met, indirectly telling him to do something. Everyone at the unit gave him looks, they figured it out something was going on.

He desperately longed for your understanding, for you to see that his actions were not a reflection of his love for you. The pain he experienced wasn’t about you—it was an internal struggle he fought against daily. He wished he could articulate the battle raging inside him, to find the words that would bridge the growing chasm between you.

But as time went on, he realized that words alone wouldn’t be enough. It was through his actions, his commitment to confronting his demons, that he would prove his love for you. Buck knew he couldn’t keep pushing you away, for it only deepened his own anguish. He needed to find the strength within himself to let you in, to let your love be the anchor that steadied him in the face of his darkest memories.

So, one evening, as you sat side by side on the couch, Buck turned to you. The vulnerability in his eyes was palpable, a silent plea for understanding. He reached out and took your hand, his grip gentle yet firm, as if trying to convey his determination to overcome his fears.

“Y/n?” Buck watched as your eyes didn’t met his, as your hand didn’t squeeze his back, his body only receiving cold shivers down the spine. His heart sank in desperation, his thoughts darkened.

“Say what you have to say and let’s end with this circus!” your eyes filled with tears as you knew it was the time. All the sweet memories with Buck would come to an end, your love was about to be forgotten and your heart was about to break.

“Hey, hold on! What to you think I’m gonna say?” Buck questioned, worry and confusion covering him as he desperately tried to touch you, to tell you everything is going to be alright, to make things right.

“You’re gonna break up with me, aren’t you?” you mumbled, “The past week you’ve been pushing me away, you didn’t look at me, you didn’t let me be by your side anymore.”

“No, no! Love…” he hurried standing up to cup your face “I’ve been pushing you away because I thought it would protect you,” he began, his voice laced with raw honesty. “But I see now that I can’t keep doing that. I love you, and I need you by my side as I face my past, my present and our future. It won’t be easy, and there will be moments when I’ll stumble. But please, believe in me, because I’m willing to fight for us.”

Tears welled up in your eyes, a mixture of relief and unwavering love. You squeezed his hand, offering a reassuring smile that conveyed your unspoken commitment. He closed the distance between you two, pulling you closer in a tight hug, one he’s been missing all this time. In that moment, Buck realised with you by his side, he can conquer the world. His fears fade away when you hold his hand and his demons run just as fast as your lips touches his.

You both knew that the road ahead wouldn’t be easy, but together, you would navigate the treacherous path, redefining your relationship with resilience, understanding, and a love that defied the darkest of shadows.

lost in the fire - e.b

  • summary: when visiting the home of a newly divorced couple in their high-security home, things get very heated for y/n and buck.
  • evan buckley x reader
  • a/n: based on one of my fav s19 episodes 🤭 also sorry for typos i’m tired and i wanna go to sleep 😁

“damn it, oliver! you called the cops?” the woman yells when she sees the red and blue lights and blaring sirens.

“audrey, there is a fire if you didn’t notice! i called the fire department!” he argues back, then turning to the 118. “my wife was just burning all of our belongings together, and the fireplace just started sparking.”

“ex-wife.” audrey grumbles.

“ok, ma’am. we need to get in there, so why don’t you, sir, come get checked out.” bobby says, leading the husband to henrietta. “we heard there were some difficulties getting in so buck, y/l/n, go see if you can get those doors open and start hitting this thing from the middle.”

“on it, cap.” buck says and the two follow the wife back into the house.

“alright so, i created this whole system to keep this house in line and it’s all programmed a certain way,” she informs the firefighters beside her. she continues to ramble on about how long it took her and how she formed it all.

“ok, well why don’t we open it?” y/n asks, politely but with a little force as well. the woman places her hand on the buzzer of the door, and it buzzes a bright red color. “huh, that’s weird. i’ll try it again.” the second time she places her finger on it, the same thing happens but another warning comes up talking about the attempts left. she pulls her hand back and observes her thumb.

“looks like you blistered it trying to burn all that stuff, it probably won’t work even if you do it a few times.” buck says to her, giving her something to wrap around her blistered thumb.

“well, here, i’ll just try it again.” buck and y/n exchange a look of confusion and doubt that it’ll work, but they wait around for her to try and get the fire revealed to them. “ugh! shit!” they all turn around and look at the door of the garage sliding down into the locked mode.

“no, no!” y/n runs over and hits on the door, realizing she was too late to try and prevent it from closing. “well, that didn’t work. do you happen to have another way to get in?”

“i have a code,” they sigh out of relief because they can already feel the intense heat filling up the garage. “but it’s getting fixed right now. of course, i mean perfect timing for my house to burn down.”

“hey, your house will be ok, we just have to try and figure out how to get through this door.” buck reassures audrey, even though he also isn’t sure how to make it out of here. “when will the system reset?”

she mumbles quietly, looking down at her shoes and taking off her sweater. “maybe a few hours, at least.” buck groans out and looks over to y/n who has a face filled with disbelief. she pulls out her radio and speaks into it.

“cap, it might be a while before we get into the actual house. looks like we’re stuck in here.”

“we gotta get you guys out of there quickly, it is way too hot to be in there for too long.” bobby says, light panic fading through his voice.

“chim! eddie! go grab the jaws and try to pry this door open before our friends get cooked alive. get at the weakest parts of the door and try to break this code.”

————————————————————————

after what felt like days inside that garage, the temperature rises to 110°. they were practically baking inside, with thick beads of sweat falling down their faces. with no water or air, they were already dehydrated and could suffocate in this garage if they could not open it.

the clatter from outside becomes distant as the heat begins to get heavier on their bodies. they are already on the cool cement floor of the room, but even with that, their clothes are soaked. audrey sits over in one of the corners and y/n and buck sit in the other.

“if we ever get married, don’t burn our stuff.” buck says.

“you think i’d burn your stuff?”

“well you never know, that guy clearly didn’t see it coming.”

“we’re firefighters, buck. i think we’d know better.” she smiles at him through the feeling of the sun touching the earth’s crust. “at least we’re in here together though.”

buck blushes like he has a middle school crush on her, even though they’ve been dating for a while. “me too, just wish it wasn’t as hot as the devil’s ass in here.”

“i wish i had the keys, maybe crank the AC of the car,” audrey says from the corner, eyeing her car.

“AC sounds heavenly, but we won’t have AC again if we get carbon monoxide poisoning from the engine.” y/n tells her, leaning back. it seems like every option they have just get shut down immediately, placing them in more danger.

“buck, y/n/n, how’s it going in there?” bobby’s voice comes in through the radio again.

“pretty good for being in an oven, but uh, get us out please.” buck says. “temps hit 115°”

————————————————————————

heavy breaths and panting have become the only noise in the room. the heat was becoming unbearable, and faith was shrinking as the fire grew. the bangs and hits from outside became almost irrelevant to the heating thoughts in their thumping heads.

“this was not on my bingo card for this year.” buck tries joking around, but neither feels like it anymore.

“save your oxygen, honey.”

“just tell me to shut up, y/n.”

“alright, shut up buck.” she forces out a little smile while slumped against the wall. audrey was their concern, but she seemed to be in the same condition and there was nothing they could do. “i’m getting tired, that’s bad, huh?”

“hey, no, you have to stay awake. we have to get out of here, everyone’s working on it, right?”

“there’s no way they gave up.”

after a few more minutes, feeling like lightyears, they hear several loud hits to the weakest parts of the door. they see something wedge the door, but it’s almost like the heat and stress of the room have closed out their senses to get up and check. with several buttons of their tops undone to try and cope with the heat, they stay still in their spots, losing more and more energy.

the door busts up, and the garage door is thrown up, dents on the outside from the smashing and banging. the vision of the couple fades as they see eddie and chimney walking toward them, helping them both stand up and carry them out. two more paramedics help audrey, removing her from the garage and placing her in an excellent ambulance.

everyone from 118 and even the cops on the scene watch with amazement as the pair comes out in almost full gear, decked with sweat and taking short, slow breaths.

“severe dehydration and heat exhaustion, get them in the ambulance and crank the air conditioning. get them fluids and oxygen masks now!” chimney leads people to each other and y/n and buck sit in their own ambulances.

the relief in their bodies takes a few minutes, but eventually, the moisture evaporates and their heads clear out of the smokey heat. y/n, placed with hen in the truck, asks, “is buck ok? he was really hot, hen. he was so hot in that garage and audrey! is she doing ok, she didn’t look too bad in there, she had fewer layers but still-“

“they’re all okay, y/n. you did well in there. that’s a pretty badass story, too, stuck in an oven basically.” y/n looks out the doors to the ambulance and sees the contained fire, no longer roaring at the garage doors and the ceiling.

“can i see ev?” was her last question. and work from eddie is the same thing happened in his aid car.

audrey’s good right?” buck asks eddie, pulling the mask away from his mouth.

“she’s fine buck, just relax.”

“where’s y/n? she was sweating a lot in there, barely heard me in there, is she alright?”

being able to stand up strong enough, y/n sneaks her way over to buck. she steps up into the ambulance. “sup, eddie.”

“sup, lava girl.” he teases. “i’ll leave you guys, keep that mask on, buck, or i swear to god-“

“bye eddie!” buck waves to him, smiling and putting the mask back around his mouth.

“pretty bad day, huh?”

“no, not at all.” buck says, surprising y/n. “you were in there with me.”

y/n lets out a cheeky grin at buck and sits closer to him. “you know i love you right?”

“of course, i know that, we just got cooked like hot dogs in there together,” she laughs and he looks into her shining eyes and red face. “and i love you, and i really hope you know that.”

“oh i know,” she says, leaning in to land a light kiss on his lips. he leans more into the kiss as it transforms into a far more passionate one than intended.

“hey!” hen yells from outside. “i left you alone for one minute and you’re already making out where i did not leave you!”

“i’d say sorry but…”

“save it, does eddie know you’re in here too?”

“yeah? he was here when i came in.”

“oh, ok then. diaz!” hen yells and walks away.

“someone’s in trouble with mama hen.” buck jokes and he brings her in for another kiss. “i heard someone say i was pretty hot in there, you didn’t have to flatter me like that.”

y/n slaps his shoulder and chuckles at his sly comments about himself. “i guess you did look pretty hot, but not as hot as that garage, baby.” she caresses the side of his face.

“oh i know somewhere else that gets hotte-“

“buck!” eddie’s voice echoes through the street, looking at buck with his hands thrown in the air. “really? what did i tell you? mask!”

buck shakes his head and then eddie points at y/n. “and you! you made me get in trouble with hen.” he starts walking toward the two of them.

“ok, maybe i should leave for my own ambulance.” she pecks his lips again and skips out of his truck.

“dirty fools, you two.” buck shakes his head and eddie smirks at the two, admiring the relationship they have together.

Listen to me

Evan “Buck” Buckley x fem!reader

Fandom: 911

Summary: You and Buck have been fighting, deciding to take a break from the relationship. But he wants to make it right.

Warnings: Angst, fighting, not proofread

Requested: No

Requests are open for Buck / Eddie!

Gif not mine, credits to the owner!

You and Buck had been arguing for days, each feeling like the other wasn’t listening. You didn’t know where all this fighting came from, but you sure do know it hasn’t stopped since then. You both knew something was wrong but couldn’t put your finger on it. The tension was palpable, and it was only a matter of time before something gave.

It all came to a head one evening, with you and Buck yelling at each other in the living room of your shared apartment. You moved in a few months back, all cozy and peaceful. Enjoying each other’s company, being able to see one another all day. It felt like a date that never came to an end.

You had been fighting about the little things, but it was clear there was something deeper bubbling beneath the surface.

“Why can’t you just listen to me for once, Buck? I feel like I’m talking to a wall!” you yelled, patience running out now.

“I am listening, but you’re not hearing me either!” Buck shot back, frustration lacing his words.

The other night, Buck’s messages suddenly stopped and they never come back. You couldn’t sleep during all his shift, not knowing if something had happened to him. Your thoughts were filled with worry and anger as you waited and over checked your dms. Maybe, maybe he texted you but you missed it.

Eventually, a few hours before his shift was about to end, you text Eddie, asking if they were ok. He replied that everything was fine and you didn’t need to worry. But that was something that made you question even more.

“I was waiting for you to text back! Or even a small reminder that you’re ok, you haven’t died. Or to tell me you’re on your way to a call and you can’t talk! Is it that hard?” you

“I was on a call, then I went to bed! It just slipped my mind!” he yelled back at that point.

You couldn’t believe his words. It slipped his mind. Talking to his lover slipped his mind. Reassuring them he’s alive slipped his mind. Maybe you were asking too much.

“Okay, fine!” you gave up. You gather a few things from the apartment, stuffing them in your bag as Buck watched your every step, his eyes filled now with worry less than anger.

“Wha-What are you doing?” your boyfriend placed his hand on top of yours, stopping you from circling around.

“We should take a break. I’ll spend the night at May’s and well see after that.” you were just texting May as his hand dropped, now resting on the kitchen counter. His eyes show the pain and the fear that’s bubbling inside, and maybe because you were hurt as well, you chose to ignore it.

Your chest aches and your head was spinning trying to keep inside the feelings. You didn’t want to show him you were hurting just as much, he wouldn’t care anyways. It is a painful decision, but you need some time to clear your head and you both knew that.

Buck was afraid he’s being left behind again. Forgotten by the person he’s loving the most. More that he loved Abby. More than he loved Ally. And even more than he loved Taylor. And that’s something. But he gulped the lump in his throat and nodded.

“Yeah, maybe that’s best.”

“Take care of you, Buck!” and with those words, you shut the door behind, leaving Buck all alone in his apartment.

One night turned into days and then into a week, and Buck found himself missing you more than he ever thought possible. He texted you every single day, babbling about every little thing that happened in his life.

//

“I think it’s over. Uh, me and Y/n.” Buck admitted between the siren’s wiling.

“We’re just having a little girl’s week. It’s been ages since we had a proper hangout. We just catching up.” Hen said, watching Buck swallow the lump in his throat. “How is that code for it’s over ?”

“Well, what’s past is prologue, right?” Buck sighs, “And, based on my past, Y/n and I have reached the point in a relationship where the woman flees.”

“Women flee you? Routinely?” Ravi asks, surprisingly turning his head in Buck’s direction.

“Starts out small. Uh, she’s-she’s canceling plans. She’s got to work. She needs to wash her hair or do her laundry, and before you know it, poof. Dropping them off at the airport and never seeing them again.” your boyfriend explained, hoping his words won’t coincide with the reality.

“Okay, Buck, you’re being a little too Buck about this. “ Hen shake her hands, waving off Buck’s worries.

“A little? When was the last time a woman told you she had to go home to wash her hair? 1952?” Eddie chuckles from his seat.

“Listen, Y/n is not Abby or Ally or Taylor. It doesn’t even rhyme. I mean, that’s a good sign, right?” Hen asks.

“The thing is… she’s been living with me for a few months now. And it’s been great and I do think I really really love her and I don’t want to lose her. Not her-“ Buck let out from his mouth some words he never had the chance to say to you. Well, he had the chance, millions of times, but never seemed the right time.

“Why does this keep happening to you?” Bobby turned his head to watch Buck as the truck rolled down the streets.

“Well, to be honest, I think…”

“No. I’m gonna tell you why.” Cap stopped him before he could explain. “Because you don’t talk to the women you’re dating. You just go with the flow and find yourself in a relationship with no idea how you got there or what to do when things start to go wrong.”

“Yeah. Who does that?” Eddie sarcastically laughed.

“My point is, breaking up is not inevitable. You can turn it around. You just have to make the effort. Talk to Y/n. Tell her how you’re feeling. Find ways to reconnect.”

And that was the moment Buck realised he gotta do something. He’s never done anything to stop the women from his life leave. He never fought. It was their decision to leave and he never said a word. It wasn’t like he’ll force you to stay with him. It was more like showing you he wants you to stay by his side. He needs you to stay by his side.

So, he spent all night planning a grand gesture. He always wanted to do that, but he never felt like it was the perfect moment. Until now.

The day after his shift ended, he showed up on May’s doorstep. He had a little hint you’ve been crashing on her couch all week, and after a few texts exchanged with May, she tricked you into putting some nice clothes on and let her do your makeup. But she never said why.

The door bell rang, sending shivers down your spine. “Please answer that for me!” Athena’s daughter shouted from the bathroom, making you roll your eyes. What’s she up to?

When you saw Buck standing in the doorway with a beautiful bouquet with your favourite flowers gathered in his hands, your heart melted. He was the last person you’d expect to see. You didn’t think Buck would show up; he always gives you time to think and heal until you’re ready to go back to him. That’s how it’s always been.

“I’m sorry,” Buck said, taking your hand in his. “I know we’ve been fighting a lot lately, but I want to make it work.”

“I know, Buck. I want to make it work too.”

your eyes softened, and you could see the sincerity in his words.

“You trust me?” Buck whispered.

“Yeah?” your response was more a question than an affirmation when you saw him pulling out a scarf. He motioned and you turn around, letting him cover your eyes. He led you outside, hearing a car door open you realised he was taking you somewhere.

“Where are we going?” you broke the silence a while after the car was rolling down the streets of LA. Hoping it was on the streets of LA.

“You said you trust me!” he chucked, turning right and left on the roads, as he entered the off-roads. “It’s a surprise, Y/n!”

When the car finally stopped and he helped you out and took off the blindfold, leaving you speechless. There was this giant hot air balloon, ready for you to wonder above Los Angles.

“Come on!” he smiled at your reaction, all you can do was nod and return his smile, feeling the anger and tension slowly dissipate in the air.

“I’m sorry, I know I was wrong. I should’ve texted you back. In my job there’s no such thing as ignoring a text. I did had the time to text you back, but I was stubborn. I don’t know why.” finally opening up to each other and sharing your fears and concerns after weeks of constant fighting and silence. It wasn’t an easy conversation, but it was necessary.

“I want you to stay by my side. I need you. And I don’t want to give up on you. On us.”

“I’m not leaving you, Buckaroo. I promise!” you extended your pinky and waited for Buck to intervene with his.

“I love you!” he suddenly spoke, his words echoing through your mind. You knew he loves you, you’ve known for a while. His actions spoke louder than his words, but that night you decided to ignore everything your heart’s been telling you.

“I love you, Buck!” he smiled softly as he grabbed your waist and pulled you closer, sealing your lips together in desire, love, warmth and longing.

By the end of it, you both knew you wanted to be together and were willing to work on your relationship.

As the sun began to set, Buck held you close, refusing to ever let you go again. And you both knew you were going to be okay. It was the first step in a long journey, but you were in it together.

i’m so lucky to have your son - evan buckley x reader

overview- you’re stuck having dinner with buck and his parents and they don’t have many nice things to say, you speak up but end up thinking you’ve upset buck but you’ve done quite the opposite

A/n- not perfect currently writing this in the bathroom before class avoiding everyone lmao

**

you and buck had been together almost a year, you met when you joined the 118 after leaving the US navy. originally when you joined the 118 you bonded closely with eddie both having military experience, you eddie and buck became a trio. eventually you and buck got closer falling for each in the most cheesy classic way.

in your time with buck you’d become extremely close in only a year, having both of you had near death experiences monthly. the worry you shared about eachother almost never caused issues.

in your whole relationship you’d never met eachothers parents, you didn’t believe you had parents your mother had died of cancer when you were 19 and you cut your dad off as soon as you turned 18 leaving his verbal abuse and alcoholism in the past. you knew buck didn’t have a great relationship with his parents, he’d spoken to you about it a few times. but you didn’t want to push, every time his parents were mentioned his loving beautiful blue eyes turned colder you could see the look of upset in his eyes.

so when he invites you to come to dinner with his parents he didn’t want to go alone, so he invited you. you were hesitant at first not knowing if they would like you at all. by the sounds of it they didn’t like buck being a firefighter, they definitely wouldn’t like the fact you were ex military now firefighter.

you stressed about what outfit to wear, nothing you would deem unladylike. you wanted to make a good first impression even though buck reassured you he didn’t care what they thought about you still worried. how could he not care they were still his parents.

you decided on a nice knitted dress with black tights, it went nicely with the weather it being fall. you wore a nice pair of boots and didn’t do your makeup too fancy. buck was gushing the whole way their how beautiful you looked. you could tell he was nervous.

“buck babe it’s okay i’ll be there with you” you tried comforting him and calming his nerves he smiled a hand placed gently on your thigh, there was nothing you could say that would ease his nerves. normally you were the only person who could calm him down, the only person who could make him think clearly but tonight he was scared. you meeting his parents could go wrong in so many ways.

mid introduced yourself to bucks parents and were now sat at the table eating your meals, it had been going alright. no awful comments yet, some suggestive ones though.

“so y/n you’re a firefighter too?” bucks dad asked taking a sip of his drink. was this where it was all gonna go wrong. you looked up at buck as if for permission to talk. he nodded.

“yeah for two years i joined after i left the military” you smiled, you could see the look of disapproval now etched into bucks parents faces.

“military? what did you do?” bucks mother asked as her husband shook his head, now you felt the tension in the air and felt bucks hand grip yours under the table.

“i was in the navy” you answered, you watched as bucks father stared down your boyfriend, he disapproved of you being ex military.

“oh evan you and your decisions” his dad scoffed as he continued eating, buck looked down, he’d told you about this the feeling that he was a constant disappointment that’s all he ever felt like with parents.

“evan is an amazing firefighter, your sons a hero” you said making direct eyecontact with evans dad. you couldnt believe they treated him like this just because he wanted to help people, just because he was a good man.

“we just had so many other plans for you evan, now youve chosen this life. and this woman” that was it, you snapped. you felt buck squeeze your hand under the table but you couldn’t just let them continue making their 28 year old son feel like this. you knew when you got home buck would be so upset.

“he chose this life because that’s who he is. your son is an amazing man, he’s a hero, he’s honourable, strong and emotionally intelligent. he saves countless lives every day. not because he chose anything, but because that is who he is. if you can’t accept that fact, then you’re missing out on the opportunity to really know your son and how amazing he is, he saved our friends eddie’s son chris in the tsunami. he’s saved my life and so many others. i couldn’t have found a better person to spend my life with. and for me, i am so lucky to have your son. you shouldn’t care about his job. or who he is with. i love him. and you both clearly don’t” you explained trying to keep your composure and not raise your voice, you put your napkin on your plate and stood up.

“thank you for the food. but i cant sit here and listen to you tear apart the bravest man i’ve ever met any longer” you looked at buck who was now stood up next to you, he didn’t know you thought so highly of him, he was in disbelief and his heart swelled at your words. he was the lucky one.

you and buck made your way home in silence, you walked into the apartment and put your bag on the kitchen cabinet, you felt guilty. you really shouldn’t have reacted like that it wasn’t fair on buck.

“babe i’m sorry, i shouldn’t have said all of that but i know how they make you feel and i couldn’t just sit there and let them say those things” you apologised, you didn’t really have an excuse you just loved buck so much you couldn’t see him looking down at his plate and avoiding eyecontact with his parents while they made him feel like a disappointment yet again.

he turned to face you, his face blank you couldn’t read any emotion which made your heart sink but that instantly changed when he pulled you into a hug, his arms going around your waist holding you tight against him your arms around his neck fiddling with the short hair on the back of his head.

you stood holding eachother for a while before he pulled away, he had tears in his eyes that he wiped away. you noticed and cupped his cheeks, you felt awful, this was all your fault you should’ve kept your mouth shut.

“i wasn’t planning to do this like this.. but you’ve showed me tonight you are the person i want to spend the rest of my life with.. i didn’t know you thought so highly of me.. calling me a hero when you’re the hero, you’ve saved me in so many ways. you’re my person y/n, you’re the most beautiful woman i’ve ever seen, you’ve stuck with me while i’ve made mistakes, while i was healing when my leg got crushed.. you never left. and i just want you to know i love you more than anything and as you’ve seen tonight, and as i’ve learnt blood doesn’t mean family. you y/n are my family..” he explained whole heartedly, tears still in his eyes. he took your hands off his face holding them, as he got down on one knee. you were in shock.

“marry me? i know we haven’t been together that long but i only want you. forever” he smiled a few stray tears slipping down his cheeks, you covered your mouth with your hand you couldn’t believe this was happening.

“yes buckley of course i’ll marry you” you smiled full of joy, you’d thought you’d made a mistake earlier in the night but you hadn’t. buck would never stop loving you, he’d realised he’d never loved someone as much as he loved you. he got up that big beautiful buck smile on his face and took you in his arms spinning you around and kissing you passionately..

You thought today was going to be like every other day. It was almost always the same. Buck got up early and kissed you on the forehead before work, and you woke up a few hours after he did to head to your own job. Sometime throughout your shift, though, Buck texted you and told you to dress up nice for the date he had planned for you, and it made you question where he was going to be taking you.
